Ongoing Care

Your Regular Hygiene Visits

Following a complete check-up, the most important part of regular care and maintenance of your teeth and gums is a professional clean and fluoride treatment. Keeping your mouth healthy is essential not only for your teeth and gums, but for your overall health and well-being too. Tartar, also known as calculus, builds up over a period of time and can only be removed by your dentist. If not removed, your gums can recede, causing your underlying bone to recede, and in some cases this can result in tooth loss due to insufficient support structure holding the tooth in place.  It is recommended that a professional clean and fluoride application is done every 6 months to remove the tartar and help keep your gums and teeth healthy.

Your Hygiene Visits and Teeth Whitening

A professional clean is essential if you are considering teeth whitening, whether it is the Zoom! In-Chair Advanced Whitening Procedure or our Zoom! Take-home whitening packs. This is similar to putting new paint on a rusted car - tartar and staining that accumulates on your teeth needs to be removed before any whitening procedure is undertaken to ensure that the active ingredients penetrates a clean tooth surface, giving you that whiter smile you have always wanted. If a professional clean is not performed before any whitening procedure, patchy and uneven areas around your teeth can occur, which may not look aesthetically pleasing to the eye.
