Dental Mouthguards vs Boil and Bite Mouthguards
Mouthguards are appliances used to protect teeth from injuries while playing sports. It can also be used to protect teeth from grinding and clenching during sleep, which can consequently cause sore teeth and/or jaws. There are two types of mouthguards that exist: a custom fitted dental mouthguard or a boil and bite mouthguard. A boil and bite mouthguard can often be purchased at the pharmacy and works by heating a thermoplastic material resembling wax and biting on it until it solidifies. Custom fitted dental mouthguards are made to fit the mouth perfectly so that it does not move or rub. An impression of the teeth is sent to a dental lab so a mouthguard can be made using high quality material.
